The Warren County Sheriff’s Department is reminding residents to use caution when approached by door-to-door solicitors, noting that while many sales representatives work for legitimate businesses, some encounters can become uncomfortable or even pose a safety risk.
According to the sheriff’s department, some salespeople may use aggressive tactics to pressure homeowners into listening to a sales pitch or allowing them inside their homes. In other cases, individuals may be involved in scams or attempting to gain access to a residence for unlawful purposes.
The department emphasizes that homeowners have the right to tell solicitors to leave their property. If a person refuses to leave after being asked or continues trying to persuade a resident to let them inside, the sheriff’s department encourages citizens to contact the Warren County Dispatch Center at 931-668-7000 and request that an officer respond.
Officials say residents should never feel unsafe on their own property and encourage the public to report suspicious or concerning behavior involving door-to-door solicitors.
