Marvin Dwight Hale, a lifelong resident of Manchester, Tennessee, passed away peacefully on July 5, 2026, at the age of 76. Born on August 12, 1949, to the late Oscar and Doris Hale, Marvin was a man of quiet strength, dedication, and deep service to both his country and his community.
Marvin proudly served his country as an honorable veteran of the United States Army during the Vietnam War. His bravery and sacrifice on the front lines earned him the prestigious Purple Heart and at least one Bronze Star, medals reflecting his profound courage and commitment to duty. Upon returning home, Marvin channeled his discipline and work ethic into a prolific 40- to 50-year career in construction. A master craftsman, he built countless houses that became homes for families in the community, and he also lent his talents to building boats.
To those who knew him, Marvin was a familiar and comforting presence. He was often seen walking around his neighborhood and through town, greeting neighbors with a familiar nod. When he wasn’t working or walking, Marvin found immense joy in life’s simple pleasures: casting a line while fishing, running the table during a good game of pool, and above all, hanging out and sharing laughs with his beloved family.
Marvin was preceded in death by his parents, Oscar and Doris Hale; his cherished daughter, Tonya Fletcher; and his siblings, Eugene Hale and Carol Brown. He is survived by his beloved grandchildren, Glen Fletcher, Austin Fletcher, and Taylor Fletcher; his siblings, Roger Hale, Richard Hale, and Marcia Bozeman; and his dear friend, Phyllis Franklin. He will be deeply missed by a host of extended family, neighbors, and friends.
Family, friends, and community members are invited to gather to honor Marvin’s life and legacy at Manchester Funeral Home on Friday, July 17, 2026. Visitation will be held from 9:30 AM to 10:30 AM, with the funeral service beginning at 10:30 AM. Burial with full military honors will be held at Chattanooga National Cemetery at 1:30 PM. There will not be a procession to the cemetery, family is asked to arrive between 1:00 pm and 1:30 pm by the national cemetery. Manchester Funeral Home is honored to serve the family during this difficult time.
