On Thursday, March 12, the Franklin County Sheriff’s Department made the following post on Facebook:
“Earlier this afternoon, SRO Adam Isbell charged a juvenile with threats of mass violence in connection with the incident on Monday at Decherd Elementary School. These charges are the result of many hours of work by SRO Isbell, Sergeant Barry Isbell, and Investigator Shawn Malhoit.
“We want to take a moment to clear up some misinformation and answer questions from the comments on our last post.
“Firstly, this incident did not occur last Friday. The note was found on Monday and referenced an event to occur this Friday. We believe that is where some people are confused.
“Many of you have been asking for more information, and we understand your concerns, but there are some pieces we will not release. We cannot release a juvenile defendant’s name in most situations. We will not release the exact details of how we are implementing heightened security in situations like this. However, please understand that we take the safety of students, teachers, and staff very seriously. We have had enhanced security at the school throughout this entire investigation.
“Our office considers this incident to have been thoroughly investigated and handled. If you have any additional information on this case or others, do not hesitate to reach out directly to our office. We value our relationship with our community and encourage their involvement to make our schools a safer environment.”
The previous post referenced above was made on Wednesday, March 11 and reads as follows:
On Monday afternoon, our agency was contacted by the principal at Decherd Elementary School in reference to a threat of violence at her school. Our SROs and investigators have spent many hours investigating this incident.
There is NOT a substantiated threat of violence at Decherd Elementary School. However, our agency is implementing several measures to help students, parents, teachers, and staff feel at ease.
Our office takes school safety very seriously, and we will continue to ensure that students, teachers, and staff are safe.
