BUSINESS SPOTLIGHT: James Wood Photography and Graphic Design

By Katie Northcott, News Director

Nineteen-year-old James Wood, a recent graduate from Motlow State Community College, is looking to put his art degree to use by partnering with local businesses who could benefit from his skills in photography and graphic design.

James has always been interested in cameras, videography, and art.

“I remember filming home videos on those little mini DV tapes with my sister,” James said. “Eventually, it turned into more of a professional interest.”

His interest in photography and design began in earnest when he began work at Eversafe Security Solutions (ESS). A friend connected James to ESS.

The friend printed stickers through ESS. James was so excited about the stickers that he asked for a job with ESS. To James’ surprise, ESS hired him.

“It was a joke, and then it became real,” James said.

While at ESS, James designed vinyl covers for windows. His work is visible at Coffee County Central High School.

His time at Motlow taught him about discipline and operating in a professional environment. He enjoys the control owning his own business has given him. He finds its rewarding to build something himself and enjoy the fruit of his own labor.

He said it can be intimidating to be a business owner at a young age, but that the community has been supportive so far. He made some connections and gained a client through the Tullahoma Area Chamber of Commerce meeting in September.

“A lot of people like seeing a young person like myself out there,” James said. “Overall, I think I’m learning how to get things under control.”

His services include website design and headshot photos for things like business cards. He has an interest in eventually doing more videography. He’s practiced his videography skills by making commercials for a couple of his friends’ small businesses.

Though James has a strong interest in taking headshot photos, his favorite of his photos were taken at Rutledge Falls in Tullahoma. Pictured below:
