Community High School (CHS), Southside Elementary School (SES), and Cartwright Elementary School (CES) will each welcome a new principal in the upcoming school year.

Brad Brown will serve as principal of CHS, Kelly Kingree will lead SES, and Malcolm Martin will serve as principal of CES.

“We are excited to welcome these exceptional leaders into their new roles,” Incoming Superintendent Tim Harwell said. “Each of these principals has demonstrated a strong commitment to students, a passion for education and the ability to build meaningful relationships within their school communities. I am confident they will continue to move their schools forward and make a positive impact on the lives of our students and families.”

Brown has a bachelor’s degree in English from Middle Tennessee State University (MTSU), and a master’s degree in Educational Leadership from Austin Peay State University. He has 14 years of experience in education and has taught 7th, 8th, 9th, and 12th grade, served as Dean of Students for CHS, and served as Assistant Principal at Community Middle School.

Brown said he is a proud CHS alumnus. He and his wife Meghan, a kindergarten teacher, have two children, Amory and Waylon.

“I am incredibly excited and honored to step into this role and serve the Community High School family. I look forward to building on the great work already happening while collaborating with students, staff and families to improve achievement and prepare every student for success after graduation,” Brown said. “I want to improve college and career readiness by helping students better understand all post-
secondary pathways – not just four-year universities. Investing in our students means investing in the future of our community.”

Kingree earned a bachelor’s degree in Education and a master’s degree in Educational Leadership from the University of Alabama. She has 19 years of experience in education and has taught Kindergarten, 1st grade, 3rd grade, and 4th grade. She served as RTI & Testing Coordinator for Shelbyville Central High School and then as Assistant Principal at SES.

“I’m excited to lead the next phase of our school’s growth. We’ve made meaningful strides in building a strong, positive culture, and I look forward to building on that momentum while deepening our impact on student outcomes through strong instruction and teacher support,” Kingree said. “Having been part of Southside’s journey, I’m focused on strengthening relationships and working as a team to help students and teachers reach the next level of success.”

Martin obtained a bachelor’s degree in Public Health and a master’s degree in Education from MTSU before earning a doctorate degree in Educational Leadership from Liberty University. He has 10 years of experience in education. He has taught 8th grade, worked as an Instructional Coach at Harris Middle School, and worked as Assistant Principal at CES.

Martin served as an officer in the United States Army for 10 years. He enjoys spending time with his wife and daughters, running, strength training, writing, leadership development, and meaningful conversations.

“I’m excited to build something that lasts – strong systems, a clear vision and a culture where students and staff thrive. As a newer school, we have a unique opportunity to be intentional about who we are and how we operate,” Martin said. “My focus is on refining systems – strengthening PLCs, improving consistency across classrooms, enhancing inclusion and ESL co-teaching models and ensuring clear communication so staff feel supported and aligned.”
