The Bedford County Jail has successfully maintained its Tier 1 accreditation following its annual inspection by the Tennessee Corrections Institute.

According to the Bedford County Sheriff’s Office, the jail underwent its third annual Tier 1 Accreditation audit on Monday, July 13, 2026. The comprehensive review was conducted by the Tennessee Corrections Institute (TCI) to ensure the facility continues to meet the state’s standards for jail operations, safety, and inmate care.

Following the audit, the Bedford County Jail successfully met 17 of the 20 required standards necessary to maintain its Tier 1 Accreditation. This distinction places Bedford County among only 29 of Tennessee’s 95 county jails to achieve this level of accreditation.

Tier 1 Accreditation reflects a commitment to operating above the minimum standards established by TCI. Rather than simply meeting the state’s requirements, the Bedford County Jail holds itself to a higher level of professionalism, accountability, and excellence in the operation of its facility.

Maintaining Tier 1 Accreditation also provides significant benefits to Bedford County. The State of Tennessee reimburses accredited facilities at a higher rate for housing state inmates, resulting in increased revenue for the county. Additionally, accreditation offers an added layer of protection by demonstrating the jail’s commitment to recognized best practices, which can help reduce potential liability in future litigation.

Jail Administrator Ronald Prince stated, “The Bedford County Jail will always strive to be a model facility for the entire State of Tennessee. We are committed to maintaining the highest level of professionalism and operational standards to ensure our facility serves as an example of what every jail should aspire to be.”
