Stephen Bobo was a puzzle that Coffee County’s bats could not solve Wednesday night at Powers Field in Manchester.
Bobo limited the Raiders to just 1 run on 6 hits while striking out 11 and Coffee County lost 8-1 to split the District 9-4A series.
Coffee County’s lone run came in the third inning on a sacrifice fly off the bat of Blake Hillis that scored Cole Pippenger. Hillis had 2 of Coffee County’s six hits on the night.
But after that the Raiders struggled. Bobo retired 11 of the last 13 batters he faced.
Coffee County had runners on second and third in the first after hard hit single from Matt Moore and a double by Hillis with just one out but the next two struck out to end the threat.
Meanwhile, Shelbyville scored a pair in the top of the second and that was enough for the Golden Eagles. They added 3 insurance runs in the third and 3 more in the fifth.
Davis McKenzie was hit with the loss on the mound for CHS, allowing 8 runs on 6 hits. He struck out 8, walked 4 and hit 3 batters. Kasen Shores worked 2.2 innings of scoreless relief.
The Raiders return to action at 6 p.m. Thursday when they host Blackman in non-district play.
