Duck River Utility Commission informed Thunder Radio and Peterson Media Group Saturday that water conservation is necessary to avoid a complete water system failure.
DRUC said that water demand is over 1,000,000 gallons a day higher than normal, preventing essential maintenance and repairs at the water treatment facility. “This will lead to complete water system failure in less than a week if customers do not reduce water use,” the commission said in a statement.
DRUC is requesting reduction in water use by everyone in Manchester, Tullahoma, Wartrace, Bell Buckle, Hillsboro, Pelham and the surrounding areas. The full statement is below:
Unfortunately, the voluntary conservation request issued by the cities on behalf of the Duck River Utility Commission has not improved the excess water demand situation. Since the recent cold snap, water demand is over 1,000,000 gallons a day higher than normal. The DRUC is renewing its request for reduction in water use by everyone in Manchester, Tullahoma, Wartrace, Bell Buckle, Hillsboro, Pelham and the surrounding areas. Water demand is so high that it is preventing the Commission from performing essential maintenance and repairs at the water treatment facility. This will lead to a complete water system failure in less than a week if customers do not reduce water use. Emergency water use restrictions are imminent if voluntary reductions are unsuccessful.
